The term computer generation is used in various advances of the new computer technology. Each generation of computers is known by a major technological development that has fundamentally changed the way computers work, resulting in smaller, cheaper, more powerful, more efficient and more reliable gadgets. The first generation of computers was incorporated by Germany during the Second World War for the construction of a warplane. In England, its mode of operation was used to decipher the German secret codes. The computer generation is the technological innovation of man as an improvement of the first counting machine, ABACUS!
The first computers, which used vacuum tubes, were often huge and occupied entire rooms. They were very expensive to operate. In addition, they used a lot of electricity and gave off a lot of heat, which was often the cause of malfunctions. The first computers were developed for the atomic energy industry.
These computers used the machine language to perform their operations and could only solve one problem at a time. Machine languages are the only languages understood by computers and it is almost impossible for humans to use them because they are entirely composed of numbers. Therefore, a high level computer programming language is used. Each CPU has its own machine language. Programs must be rewritten to run on different types of computers. The entrance was based on punch cards and strips of paper while the output was displayed on the prints.
During the second generation, the transistor was invented in 1947 but its use was not widespread in computers until the late 1950s. But later, transistors became the key component of all digital circuits, including computers. The latest microprocessor contains tens of millions of microscopic transistors! Microprocessors have brought the latest generation of computers. Thousands of integrated circuits are built in a single silicon chip containing a processor. The silicon chip has reduced the size of computers, from bulky slow computers to a size of computers that can be attached to a desktop computer or a laptop.
Modern computers are far superior, allowing them to become smaller, compact, faster, cheaper, more energy efficient and more reliable than their first-generation predecessors. Computers become smaller; therefore, speed, power, and memory have increased relatively. New discoveries are constantly being changed in computers that affect how we live, work and play. With the latest technological innovations, computers have become an absolute necessity for all. Therefore, the need for refurbished cheap or worn computers has also appeared! The refurbished computer manufacturers are providing satisfactory service by creating cheap computers at an affordable price, offering the same performance as the brand new machine. Since most people can not buy new brand models, they opt for used computers, cheap refurbished computers that are easy to obtain, convenient to use, and efficient. Plus, it’s a great way to save money.
The next generation of computers will likely be based on artificial intelligence, under development. It is a branch of computer science that seeks to make computers behave like humans! Scientists are beginning to use the term nanotechnology, although much progress remains to be made. Major research is needed to develop software to improve computer work and its robotic applications!
