There is no need to let this new generation of computer equipment go by. Yes, I’m talking about Kindles, Nooks, iPads, tablets, Netbooks and Androids, Smartphones, iPhones, Blackberries and all that jazz. Why not stay in sync with his time and all that is available? For example, if you leave the game for a few years, it seems that all the technology has passed us all. I mean by the way, you know they will sell the iPad 12 and have a holographic videoconference, I guess?

Not so long ago, a proven engineering knowledge was mentioned to me. “When I went to engineering school, I used a slide rule (how’s your old story?).”

When I started my first business, there was no fax machine, no mobile phone, no computer, none of that. You used a typewriter with a plug-in correction tape (new advanced technology) to correct the errors. Electric typewriters were great for improving productivity! Hahaha. When I went to school, they were trying to determine if it was “ethical” to have a calculator in the classroom and teachers were worried that it would not teach children the mechanics of mathematics. I think they were right, judging by the poor performance of children in math during my last year in HS.

Now, I guess I could summarize my point of knowledge simply, our computer technology that he drove, after he stepped out of the game and retired ten years ago, and so, like many Americans in his position, catching up to do. And to his excellent point, here is another observation from me; First of all, I think it’s wise to stay at least on technology because it makes our lives more efficient and productive.

You know, I see a lot of people in my area now, most are 70’s to 90’s because of this exclusive golf community of successful retirees here in Palm Desert, California, and they’re all now using personal technology apparatus. They carry iPads, smartphones, Kindle and many other things. They are busy e-mailing grandchildren, shopping online, reading e-books, browsing the news, playing Bridge online and having a good time, some seem pretty disconcerting.

And here is the thing; you know it makes me smile a little. So do not let the computer technology you buy, think about your options, and maybe buy new hardware when it makes sense. It’s not too hard to see what’s going on, and you’ll be happy enough to discover a whole new world that you see?
